In the Season 2 premiere of TEACHful, professor and researcher Peter Felten discusses the value of relationship-rich education for students, teachers, and post-secondary institutions.
During the interview, Felten explains the benefits of a relationship-rich environment for helping students succeed, for making faculty work more effective and sustainable, and for leveraging connections within institutions. He discusses how AI complicates both education and relationships, providing some practical alternatives for assessments. He also acknowledges the barriers that faculty face when considering how to implement relationship-rich education.

In the Season 1 finale of TEACHful, Dwight Powless and Dr. Linda Manning talk about how relationships, responsibility, culture, and learning can help us better understand ourselves and one another.
Dwight Powless is a Mohawk from Six Nations, retired Indigenous Relations Manager at Canada Post, and former community liaison resource at Algonquin College.
Linda Manning is an intercultural economics professor and program impact evaluator with a 30-year post-secondary teaching career (including a stint at Algonquin College).
Their long-standing friendship and professional partnership models the importance of relationships and the ability to learn from one another across different perspectives, something they show in their book, A Path Forward, Mikan E'niigaanimok: Continuous Improvement Through an Indigenous Lens. It also speaks to how educators can respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action – how to work respectfully across different worldviews and ways of knowing.

Longtime educator Rebecca Volk takes a break from retirement to join us for the latest episode of TEACHful. We talk about her successes and challenges while working in education, finding fulfillment in the big and small moments of teaching, how to keep going during tough times, and why saying “thank you” can fill your cup.

Episode 5 of TEACHful is a conversation with three representatives from the Algonquin College Students’ Association about their AI use, how they feel about it, and what their expectations are for future use.
We really valued this interview – the students were very honest, but also very reflective. Rather than an open-arms embrace of AI, they noted their hesitations and concerns, including a fear of “losing yourself.” On the other hand, they recognized the productivity, the “use it like a friend” aspect, and the potentials for their industries.
